The combining process is the 6th process out of the 7 transformative processes. It is the first process in which multiple hierarchical polarizations from the hierarchical polarization paradigm are addressed and challenged. To do so, it challenges the idea that individual hierarchical polarizations are disconnected and unrelated to each other. It expands social movements to fight against oppression as a whole. The combining process is believed to be a natural result of the transformative moment because all of the hierarchical polarities have been instituted by a similar societal mindset. The subordinate groups might experience oppression differently, but oppression is oppression, and it seems natural for these oppressed groups to come together and form a larger, stronger social reform movement.
