Glossary

1. Comparative Advantage The ability of an individual or group to carry out an economic activity, such as production, at a lower cost and with greater efficiency than another entity
2. Glass Ceiling The name given to a set of subtle barriers believed by many to inhibit women and minorities from reaching the upper echelons of corporate America, government, and academia
3. Labor Force Participation Rate The number of members of a particular group who are in the labor force divided by the total number of the group in the population
4. Labor Market Discrimination When two equally qualified individuals are treated differently on the basis of gender (race, age, disability, etc.)
5. Traditional Sexual Division of Labor Refers to the traditional division of work, in which women engage in full-time housework, while the men are full-time wage earners in the labor market
6. Specialization To pursue some specific line of study, work, etc.
